Ulrike Ottinger’s films expose the exotic within the everyday, drawing out the “other” within one’s self as something to be accepted and celebrated. In 1985 Ottinger traveled to China to find “real exoticism” and produced China. The Arts –The People…, a four and a half hour “travelogue” that doesn’t translate or mediate difference but rather uses it as a starting point for commonality. Total: 270 min.
