CROSSING BORDERS: The International Avant-Garde Today

SAN FRANCISCO ART INSTITUTE

Michael Hutak in person

The Super-8 Film Group of Sydney is a lively center of low-budget filmmaking, representing nearly 400 Australian filmmakers. Embracing super-8’s low-end production values, these filmmakers rudely reject the formal ‘asceticism’ of the previous generation, turning to pop culture and early Underground film figures for inspiration. Tonight’s selection by Michael Hutak presents “the most of the curious subgenres specific to Australian super-8” and includes work by 12 different filmmakers. Total: 88 min.

CROSSING BORDERS: The International Avant-Garde Today
