Probing scars of patriarchal oppression and wounds left by anti-Semitism, Beating (Bay Area premier) by Toronto based filmmaker Barbara Sternberg asks how one remembers or forgets, accuses — and forgives. Sternberg’s journey through history is personal, marked on her body and again on the broken and ecstatic images of this new hour-long film which juxtaposes silence, body sounds, and text with optically manipulated images which speak straight to the gut.
