B>BUFFERIN(1966)
THE VELVET UNDERGROUND AND NICO (1966)

Bufferin is a portrait/performance of Gerard Malanga, poet and Warhol’s studio assistant from 1963-67. Malanga censors himself as he reads his poetry by substituting the word ‘Bufferin’ for proper names in his texts. The result is a playful confrontation between Malanga and Warhol that subtly discloses the complexities of their relationship. The Velvet Underground and Nico shows the VU practicing for a multi-media performance which Warhol (their producer) had scheduled at the Film-Maker’s Cinematheque, with the police busting up the rehearsal at the end.
