Another Story: Narrative & Experimentation

SAN FRANCISCO ART INSTITUTE

800 Chestnut Street

San Francisco, CA, 94133

A panel discussion, including prepared statements and clips from work by: Manuel De Landa, Mexican filmmaker and performance artist currently living in N.Y.C. His irreverent work has gained considerable notoriety; Steve Fagin, video artist whose work juxtaposes theory, cultural collage, and whimsical fantasy; Marjorie Keller, filmmaker in residence at the S.F. Art Institute. Keller’s films combine a highly personal lyricism with a strong social focus; Yvonne Rainer, a landmark performance artist and dancer during the 1960s who has become one of America’s leading independent filmmakers; Trinh T. Minh-ha, a Vietnamese filmmaker whose films of Africa creatively re-evaluate Western assumptions of subjectivity and objectivity.
