Holly Fisher’s recent films are optically printed reworkings of super-8mm home movie footage shot in Europe and the American Southwest. Rushlight, the second part of her East/West Cycle trilogy, was made from 4 rolls shot on a weekend while driving through Northern Roumania, near the Russian border. Her rephotography centers on a meditative play with the expressive potential of motion, combining chance, impulse and formal analysis. Ghost Dance is a filmic vision quest, made through a systemic recycling of an 8mm roll shot while descending Arizona’s Canyon de Chelly. Fisher’s films have been shown at the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum in NYC. This will be her first appearance in San Francisco.
