In the Street (1952), photographed by Helen Levitt and Janice Loeb, script by James Agee. The Quiet One (1948), photographed by Helen Levitt, script by James Agee, produced by Sidney Meyers and Janice Loeb.

Helen Levitt is best known for her haunting photographs taken during the past 40 years. In the late ’40s she collaborated on film projects with Janice Loeb and James Agee (the famous writer and critic) that depicted the gritty life of New York’s streets. In the Street used surprisingly candid photography to document a racially-mixed group of children playing in an Upper East Side neighborhood. The Quiet One is a groundbreaking docu-drama of a disaffected black youth in Harlem who drifts from juvenile delinquency and withdrawal back into the world.
